Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs about our products
Where are your products produced?
Our maple bush is located on our family farm, just outside of Hanover, Ontario. All of our products are made on site.
What is the shelf life of your products?
When stored properly, 100% pure maple products keep for quite a long time.
Maple syrup should keep well for a year unopened in a cool pantry, a year opened in the fridge, and indefinitely in the freezer.
Maple butter should keep well for a year unopened in a cool pantry, for two weeks if kept refrigerated, and indefinitely in the freezer.
What is the best way to store maple syrup and maple butter?
Store maple syrup and maple butter in a cool, dry place that is (ideally) below room temperature and out of direct intense light. Your fridge or freezer is best. Once opened, maple syrup and butter must be refrigerated.
Does maple syrup go bad?
Unopened 100% pure maple syrup that has been properly processed and bottled should not spoil because the high sugar content prohibits the growth of bacteria. Opened syrup may develop mould that is easy to remedy – simply skim off the mould, boil the syrup to kill off spores and put into an air-tight container that has been cleaned well with boiling water.
What is the best way to use maple syrup?
We produce Grade A Amber 100% pure maple syrup, which has a robust full-bodied taste. It is best for pouring on pancakes and waffles, poaching fruit, sweetening homemade granola, glazing steamed vegetables, drizzling on ice cream, replacing refined sugar in baking.
What is maple butter and what do I put it on?
Contrary to its name, maple butter is made from 100% maple syrup and contains no dairy whatsoever. It is made from our best Grade A Golden 100% pure maple syrup heated to a high temperature and stirred continually until it reaches a light and creamy consistency. Its delicate taste is a delicious replacement for butter, peanut butter or honey on baked goods, pancakes, waffles and French toast, baked sweet potatoes, and roasted butternut squash. You can even ice a cake with it!
What does “100% pure” mean?
Exactly that. The syrup in a Magwood Maple bottle is 100% pure maple syrup. No additives or preservatives.
